Hardcore Watches : The Watch With the Heart of a Biker

Posted by admin | Mens watch | Friday 29 January 2010 5:09 pm

Hardcore Watch Company was established in more than 10 years ago with a single idea in mind : to create watches that might capture the rough, take-no-crap perspective and individuality of bikers. But just because Hardcore Watches weren't going to be stylish evening wear, that didn't mean they weren't deserving of exceptional expertise. In fact, the nature of activities common to riders meant the timepieces wanted to be at least as durable as the'finer' watch brands, if not more so.

That idea was the start of an organization that would at last grow to become the premiere provider of precision ( and infrequently custom ) watchs for bike riders not only across America, but around the globe. With designs like The Reaper, The Joker and The Soul Eater, Hardcore Watches puts as much heart into the design of its watches as custom bike makers put into their creations. The images underneath the crystal of their watches are bold, bleak, sometimes bizarre and add to the statement of a gruff, don't-mess-with-me character that many bikers wish to identify with.

The watches have also caught on with professional poker players and poker backers, to the extent that the watches were lately features in [name] magazine. As a result of this recognition, Hardcore has introduced a line of poker-inspired watches, including a numbered edition design especially for collectors and'hardcore' poker fans.

Interest in Hardcore Watches isn't restricted to riders and card sharks, however. Many folks buy watches simply out of an appreciation of the attention-grabbing designs. The stark pictures, typically set against the black leather and chrome of the watches straps and casing, seem to resonate with anyone who has a certain ready-to-rumble perspective and penchant of going against the grain. Buy Hardcore Watches from a sanctioned dealer with full makers guaranty.

A Short History of the Wristwatch

Posted by admin | wristwatches | Friday 29 January 2010 5:07 pm

Over the centuries clocks have been utilized as a symbol of standing by those who wear them. Their precision, elegance and convenience are just some of the attributes that watches and clocks represent. Frequently they're purchased only for their cultured looks. And at other times they are acquired due to their technical attributes like being accurate to the last moment or even millisecond. This is what makes clocks and watches so collectible and in a number of cases they can command high sums of cash.

Whether you collect the new high precision watches or ones that come from a past era, the truth is that over time this spare time interest has become a high turnover business. And picking up watches is in lots of circles thought of as a smart form of investing.

At the beginning of the last century the clocks that were available for men or ladies were firstly pocket clocks, and then clocks that held by a pendant attached to the lining of jackets or corsets. The advent of war, industrialization, and the development of the game activities, brought over new trends which extended to not simply the way we dressed, but also how we carried our clocks.

It is often said that it's a nanny who invented wristwatches at about the end of the 19th century, who fixed a clock round her wrist by employing a silk band. The first watches to be made were in fact smaller models of pocket clocks that were fitted with a leather strap. Once this product hit the market more modern designs started to be produced based around this same idea.

It was Louis Cartier who first made the kind of watches we see today when he created a watch for a flying pioneer hero by the name Santos Dumont. By 1911 this same kind of watch was on general sale. That very same sort of watch became the plan of what wristwatches look like to this day.

Just after the design of wrist'clocks' began to diversify away from the classical round shape that had been in vogue up till that time. From the Cartier classical wrist watch other makes of watch started to appear which were indicated by their shape. Movado is the perfect example of these new designs when it came out with the'Polyplan' shaped watch. Then came the famously and cryptically called'clock reference n. 1593' by Patek Philippe which was an oblong formed watch.

From 1913 onwards more watches started to be developed in all shapes and styles. From the 'gondola' watch of Patek Phillipe to Louis Cartiers ''Tank''; named therefore because it was inspired by the form of English armored autos of the time. These are watches which are rather asked for. There were other countless watch makers like Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin who together with Patek Philippe and Cartier came out with plenty of other designs which added other features to the watches like lunar phases, month and day the majority of which are found in modern watches now.

Of course we couldn't mention wrist watches without discussing the most noted of all : the Rolex watch. In the 1920s Rolex debuted in the sector of wrist watches with the sublime Rolex Prince and its revolutionary time' feature made renowned for having the seconds sector' larger than that of the minutes. At the same time Jaeger Le Coultre produced an even more advanced piece called the 'Reverse', also terribly revolutionary in that it could be turn 180 degrees inside its case, therefore defending the crystal and dial. It became surprisingly favored and was only forestalled from achieving even greater success by the recession of the 1930s and the arrival of world war 2.

These early watches of the 1910s to 1930s are what define all the makes of watches that we see and wear today. This brief article has only scratched the outer surface of what is an extremely vast subject which has lots more watch makers with various and revolutionary designs. However it is makers like Rolex, Cartier, Jaeger Le Coultre and the others mentioned that are among the most valuable and collectible, and should you ever be so lucky to get one then ensure you hang on to it - ideally to your wrist.

Keeping Fine Watches in Fine Form

High quality watches generally cost a giant quantity of money, and it is unlikely, unless the watch's owner is filthy rich and similarly slovenly with his wealth, that a costly watch will be tossed aside after a few years. The highest quality watches, from Rolexes to Bvlgaris, will probably be treasured for a generation or more. Even the highest quality watches require regular servicing, which may mean a straightforward battery change or something more extensive,eg changing the rubber gaskets on a water resistant watch. How should a posh watch owner go about finding a good service center, and what sort of servicing might be required?

First, before you take your valuable watch, which cost gobs of money, in for servicing at a local service center, check your manual. Some watch companies service their own products while others contract with service centers to make repairs. These permitted service centers will have the parts needed to repair your watch immediately available, they are going to be really familiar with the brand and the procedures for servicing it, and they are going to be regulated by the watchmakers to a certain extent. Taking your watch to an unauthorized service center can lead to lengthy or, far worse, shoddy repairs that may harm the integrity of your family heirloom.

When should costly watches be sent in for repairs? First and most important, test your manual for the watch manufacturer's recommended servicing schedule. Mechanical watches sometimes must be serviced more often, meaning once every couple of years. Otherwise, they may lose their accuracy or water-resistance. Quartz analog watches require less servicing than mechanical watches. Some basic servicing should be done each couple of years accompanying battery changes, but they will not need a full servicing for 6 to ten years. A full digital quartz watch doesn't actually need any servicing except for a change of batteries.

While the time and continual investment required for keeping a quality watch in tip top shape is more than one might expect, expensive watches have a definite appeal. For well off adventurers, the $3,500 Breitling Emergency watch sends an SOS signal to a search and rescue station close by and will lead to a search and rescue operation by aircraft to find you. If you are a stylish heiress who is not very likely to require rescuing, you could be interested in the $65,000 Patek Philippe dress watch with 264 hand set, top quality baguette diamonds. While many of us can only dream about owning such watches, it is important for the fortunate few who do own top quality watches to keep their possessions in the best shape feasible to preserve for generations to come.
